    En un interior acomodado, un hombre fuma sentado frente a la chimenea encendida. Otros signos de bienestar son las grandes cortinas, la mullida alfombra (pintada con el mayor detalle de todo el cuadro), la indumentaria de elegante sport. A pesar del aire próspero, la expresión del hombre es pensativa y tensa.


    Boyan suele dedicarse a los retratos al óleo, con frecuencia basados en fotografías encontradas. A veces se han comparado sus cuadros con cartas de adivinación, por el aire algo simbólico que transmiten. Sus personajes destacan por una inquebrantable dignidad, sea cual sea su situación.
