La obra de Xu Hualing retrata a un par de mujeres de perfil en ropa interior sosteniéndose las manos, sobre un fondo beige. Hualing recibió una sólida formación académica en pintura tradicional gongbi y dibujo del natural. La artista intenta revelar mediante su arte las emociones personales de sus sujetos, interesándose explorar la calidad esencial de su vida.
