Bert Stern Brooklyn, USA, 1929-2013
Stern taught himself to take pictures when he was young. Throughout his career, he changed the landscape of fashion and advertising photography by creating images so dynamic that they no longer existed simply to complement text.
In 1951 he entered Mayfair magazine as artistic director and soon began his collaboration with magazines such as Vogue, Squire, Look, Life, Glamor and Holiday, his best known work is The last sitting (The last session) which is a collection of 2,571 photographs Taken with Marilyn Monroe in 1962 at the Bel-Air hotel in Los Angeles.
Exhibitions of his work include "I Want to Be Loved by You: Photographs of Marilyn Monroe" displayed at the Brooklyn Museum of Art and "The Last Sitting" at the Musée Maillol in Paris.
He died in Manhattan in 2013, at the age of 83.
