Tafadzwa Tega Zimbawe, b. 1985
Born in Harare, Zimbabwe, in 1985, Tega studied Art at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe before moving to South Africa in 2008. He lives in Cape Town.
Through his work, Tega pays tribute to Zimbabweans and expatriates from other countries who have been forced to disperse across the world. He acknowledges their efforts to move forward and integrate while preserving the memory of their homeland and loved ones. Tega portrays them in theatrical poses and with exuberant use of color, emphasizing their dignity in adversity and the courage of their struggle for life.
His solo exhibitions include Matakadya Kare and A Seed Will Take Its Time at Everard Read, Cape Town; Harare Dream at Foreign Agent, Lausanne; Mwana Whevu at MOMO, Johannesburg; and Adolf Tega at AVA, Cape Town. He has also participated in group exhibitions at galleries such as Everard Read and Christopher Moller in Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Franschhoek; Mimmo Scognamiglio in Milan; and JD Malat in London. His work is held in collections including the Leridon Collection, Spier Arts Trust, Nando’s Collection, and the University of Cape Town Collection.
