Cuando la virgen María y San José se encontraban en la pequeña ciudad de Belén nació el niño Jesús. Este alumbramiento convocó a sabios y a pastores por igual. Fueron todos desde lejos guiados por la estrella de Oriente, y al ver al niño Jesús envuelto en pañales y acostado en el pesebre, conmovidos lo adoraron.
El pesebre representa el contraste entre lo divino y lo humano: el Hijo de Dios deja la gloria celestial para habitar el mundo terrenal y cumplir la promesa de su padre salvando a la humanidad.
