Retrato vertical de cuerpo entero de una mujer joven sentada en un taburete. Lleva solamente unas medias rosas. La postura, la indumentaria e incluso el entorno hacen pensar en un descanso en una clase de baile, como un descanso del esfuerzo.


Ma Yanhong es conocida por sus retratos de jóvenes, apenas vestidas, que miran directamente al espectador, de modo que tanto modelo como público comparten un espacio de vulnerabilidad. Suele elegir como modelos, si no a sí misma, a personas cercanas. De esa manera alcanza un nivel de confianza mutua que traslada a la pintura, entre íntima y distante. Su obra mantiene un equilibrio entre voyeurismo, exhibicionismo y vergüenza tanto por parte de los modelos expuestos como por parte del espectador.
