Ryan Mosley England, b. 1980

Biography

Ryan Mosley was born in Chesterfield, England, in 1980. He lives and works in Sheffield.

He studied at the University of Huddersfield and completed a master’s degree in Painting at the Royal College of Art in London. He has received the Grand Arts Residency, Kansas; the Basil H. Alkazzi Award, New York; and the Visual Arts Travel Scholarship, Australia.

 

Mosley’s primary interest is portraiture. His work represents a surreal world populated by imaginary characters and rituals. His approach to painting is instinctive, colorful, and spontaneous; he works directly on the canvas without making preliminary studies.

Some of his solo exhibitions have taken place at EIGEN + ART Leipzig/Berlin; Alison Jacques Gallery, London; Susanne Vielmetter Projects, Los Angeles; Tim van Laere Gallery, Antwerp; and Regina Gallery, Moscow.

 

His work has been shown in group exhibitions at Aston Hall Museum, Birmingham; Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck, Germany; Saatchi, London; Galerie Mikael Andersen, Copenhagen; MODEM Museum, Debrecen, Hungary; and the Royal Academy of Arts, London, among other venues.

Mosley’s work is included in collections such as the Arts Council Collection, United Kingdom; the Saatchi Collection, London; and the Falckenberg Collection, Hamburg, among others.
