Xavier Veilhan Lyon, France, b. 1963
Xavier Veilhan was born in Lyon in 1963.
He studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin, and the Institut des Hautes Études en Arts Plastiques at the Centre Pompidou. He completed residencies at Casa Wabi, Puerto Escondido, and at the Sheats–Goldstein Residence in Los Angeles. He represented France at the 57th Venice Biennale.
Veilhan is a multimedia artist whose work in sculpture, installation, and video art is based on his explorations of architectural form. He also works with music, and many of his pieces are displayed in public spaces.
He has held solo exhibitions at Andréhn‑Schiptjenko, Stockholm; Galeria Nara Roesler, São Paulo; Galerie Perrotin, New York and Paris; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Espace Louis Vuitton, Tokyo; the Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain, Strasbourg; Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona; MNAM–Centre Georges Pompidou; and the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, among others. He has participated in group exhibitions mainly in Spain, France, Tokyo, London, Seoul, and New York.
Much of his work is permanently installed in the streets of Paris, Hong Kong, and New York, and is also part of public and private collections.
