Sebastian Blanck New Haven, Connecticut, USA, b. 1976

Biography

Lives and works in New York.

Blanck holds a BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design and was selected as Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome.

His work is comprised of deeply intimate portrayals of his everyday life. The color and draftsmanship vibrantly capture personalities and moods and convey great familiarity with his subjects, his loved ones, fellow artists and musicians, and his children at play. He uses a collage technique that layers painted paper onto watercolor, which is then directly painted on stretched paper. His emphasis on pattern, lack of specificity, and cool, formal compositions suggest a dialogue with the more formalist concerns associated with Pop Art.

He has had exhibitions at galleries in the United States and Europe. Some of his solo shows have been at De Buck Gallery, New York; Baldwin Gallery, Aspen, CO; Dubner Moderne, Lausanne, Switzerland; Wetterling Gallery, Stockholm; Scott White Contemporary Art, San Diego, CA; Michael Steinberg Fine Art, New York; Daniel Azoulay Gallery, Miami; and Galleria In Arco, Turin, Italy. He has also participated in many group shows.
