Sebastian Blanck New Haven, Connecticut, USA, b. 1976

Biography

Sebastian Blank, who was born in New Haven in 1976, lives and works in New York.

He holds a BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design and was selected as a visiting artist at the American Academy in Rome.

His work consists of intimate portraits of his daily life. The models for his paintings are usually close people, fellow painters and musicians, and his children. He captures their personalities and moods through color and delineation, and uses the collage technique with layers of painted paper over watercolor. His emphasis on patterns, lack of specificity, and distant formal compositions suggest a dialogue with the formalist interests associated with Pop Art.

He has had exhibitions in the United States and Europe. Some of his solo exhibitions have been at De Buck Gallery, New York; Baldwin, Aspen; Dubner Moderne, Lausanne; Wetterling, Stockholm; Scott White Contemporary Art, San Diego; Michael Steinberg Fine Art, New York; Daniel Azoulay, Miami; and Galleria In Arco, Turin, Italy. He has also participated in multiple group exhibitions.
