Sean Henry Woking, England, b. 1965
Biography
Sean Henry was born in 1965 in Woking, not far from Winchester, where he now lives and works.
He studied at the Farnham School of Art and graduated in Ceramic Sculpture from the Bristol Polytechnic. He was the first sculptor to win the Villiers David Award in 1998.
Henry’s sculptures depict contemporary figures in everyday casual clothing, frozen mid-movement or absorbed in quiet reflection. He first models the forms in clay, then casts them in bronze or makes them in ceramic, and finally paints them in oil.
Henry’s sculptures portray individuals immersed in quiet reflection or caught in the midst of movement. Their realism lends them an everyday quality. He begins by modeling the forms in clay, then renders them in ceramic or casts them in bronze, and finally paints them in oil.
Among his solo exhibitions are those held at Salisbury Cathedral; Osborne Samuel Gallery, London; LKFF Art & Sculpture Projects, Brussels; Forum, New York; Andersson Sandström, Stockholm; Von Braunbehrens, Munich; and Holdsworth, Sydney. His work is often exhibited in public spaces, many on a permanent basis, such as in London, Oslo, Bad Homburg, and Michigan.
Henry’s works can be found in public and private collections including the National Portrait Gallery, London; Cass Sculpture Foundation, Goodwood; Eschborn City Collection, Germany; ING Bank, Amsterdam; the City of Stockholm Collection; and the Seavest Collection, Florida, USA, among others.
