Kyung Jeon USA, b. 1975

Biography

Lives and works in New York.

Jeon studied at the School of Visual Arts, New York, and at Boston College. She explores the experience of growing up as a Korean-American. At first, Jeon’s works look sweet and bright, but when looked at closely, boys and girls are involved in dark or violent stories.

Some of her solo exhibits are the Tina Kim Gallery, New York; Sabina Lee Gallery, Los Angeles; Teo+Namfah Gallery, Bangkok; Joyce Goldstein Gallery, New York; Kukje Gallery, Seoul; Miki Wick Kim Contemporary Art, Zurich; and DUST Gallery, Las Vegas.

She has received awards and residency grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, the Associate Artist in Residence at the Atlantic Center for the Arts, and the Scope Emerging Artist Grant.

Kyung has also exhibited in group shows at the American University Museum Katzen Art Center, Washington, DC; Zebrastraat Art & Cultural Center, Ghent, Belgium; The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield; MEM Gallery, Osaka, Japan; Kumho Museum of Art, Seoul, Korea; Léo Bahia Arte Contemporanea, Santa Lúcia, Brazil; Whitney Young Cultural Center Mansion, San Francisco, CA, and Center on Contemporary Art, Seattle.
