Kyung Jeon USA, b. 1975

Biography
Kyung Jeon was born in Jersey City in 1975. She lives and works in New York.
She studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York and at Boston College. She has received grants such as the Scope Emerging Artist award and has held residencies with the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and as an Associate Artist in Residence at the Atlantic Center for the Arts.
 
The experience of growing up Korean American is central to her work. At first glance, Jeon’s work seems cheerful and sweet, but a closer look reveals the darkness and violence endured by the boys and girls portrayed.
 
Some of her solo exhibitions include Tina Kim Gallery, New York; Sabina Lee, Los Angeles; Teo+Namfah, Bangkok; Joyce Goldstein, New York; Kukje, Seoul; Miki Wick Kim Contemporary Art, Zurich; and DUST, Las Vegas.
 
Kyung has also participated in group exhibitions at the American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center, Washington, DC; Zebrastraat Art & Cultural Center, Ghent; The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield; MEM Gallery, Osaka; Kumho Museum of Art, Seoul; Léo Bahia, Santa Lúcia; Whitney Young Cultural Center Mansion, San Francisco; and the Center on Contemporary Art, Seattle.
