Harding Meyer Brazil, b. 1964

Biography
Born in Porto Alegre in 1964, he lives and works in Karlsruhe. He studied Fine Arts at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Karlsruhe.

He is known for his large-scale realistic portraits, created from photographic images taken from television, magazines, press, or digital media. The portraits, generally in very close-up shots where the subjects' gazes confront the viewer, are painted in oil with brushes and spatulas, and reproduce the distortions and aberrations produced by mass media. In his painting practice, Meyer recovers a certain humanity that faces have lost due to media visual saturation.

Since 2000, Meyer has had numerous solo exhibitions in galleries in Germany, Austria, Canada, England, Qatar, and Italy; among the most recent are the Frey Gallery, Salzburg and Vienna; Voos, Düsseldorf; Odon Wagner, Toronto; and Jarmuschek, Berlin. He has also participated in group exhibitions in museums such as Würth France in Erstein; Dr. Guislan, Ghent; and Michetti, Francavilla al Mare. He has also participated in numerous international fairs, most notably Art Basel, Miami. His works are included in the collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Arts Council of England; Fonds National d’Art Contemporain, France; Saatchi Collection, London; Sintra Museu de Arte Moderna, Portugal; UK Government Art Collection; The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; among others.
