Biography

Julião Sarmento was born in 1948 in Lisbon.

He lives and works in Estoril. He studied at the Escola Superior de Belas Artes, Lisbon.

His work combines film, video, sound, painting, sculpture, and installation, and deals with themes such as psychological interaction, sensuality, voyeurism, and transgression. In his works, he often partially or completely erases images, and then draws over the erased area, creating fragmented and layered forms that evoke baffling and mysterious gestures and relationships.
