Biography

Lives and works in Vienna, Austria.

Ruyter studied at MCPS Art Center, Maryland, at the School of Visual Arts, New York, and at Hunter College Graduate Fine Arts Program, New York. He taught at The Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna and has given lectures at Columbia University; Maryland Institute, College of Art; and New York University.

Ruyter’s artistic process fuses new media and technologies with traditional drawing, painting and printmaking techniques. His work begins with a photography, which is transferred onto a surface and reduced to colorful zones and delineated areas.

Some of Ruyter’s solo exhibitions are Eleven Rivington, New York; Alan Cristea Gallery, London; Leeahn Gallery, Seoul and Daegu, Korea; Georg Kargl, Vienna; Taka Ishii Gallery, Tokyo; Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Paris; Mimmo Scognamiglio Arte Contemporanea, Naples, Italy; and Museum der Moderne Salzburg. Ruyter has also participated in special projects as the Hoarding Project, Tate Modern, London; and Projects 77, The Museum of Modern Art, New York. 

Ruyter’s work belongs to collections such as Denver Art Museum; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; La Colección Jumex, Mexico City; Collection le Consortium, Dijon, France; and Museum der Moderne, Salzburg, among others.
