Didier Viodé Benín, b. 1979
Didier Viodé was born in Benin in 1979 and lives and works in France.
He studied at the Institut National Supérieur de l’Art in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, and later at the Institut Supérieur des Beaux‑Arts in Besançon, France.
A multimedia artist, he works with painting, photography, video, and illustration. His work reflects the influence of the Fluxus movement, which advocates that anything can be art. Viodé employs unconventional materials such as cardboard, plastic, newspaper, and textiles. His inspiration comes from his surroundings, street and popular culture, politics, and the media. The artist observes and then paints, photographs, and films his everyday life. His work aims to represent the world around him, address human concerns, and give visibility to “the invisible.”
Viodé has exhibited at Septième Gallery in Paris; Foreign Agent, Lausanne; the Château de Tanlay at the Conseil Régional de Bourgogne in Dijon; the Harn Museum of Art in Florida; Marianne Boesky Gallery in New York; Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town; and the Dakar Biennale, among others.
