David Salle Norman, Oklahoma, b. 1952
Biography
Born in 1952, David Salle lives and works in New York.
He studied at the California Institute of the Arts, where he was a student of John Baldessari.
He has developed a personal pictorial language rooted in postmodernism. Following the path of appropriation, he works with a wide range of images which, when superimposed, convey great movement and vitality. His work is charged with imagery, and its narratives transport the viewer into a space of conflict.
Salle has exhibited worldwide, and his paintings are held in the collections of the Albertina Museum, the Reina Sofía Museum, MoMA, the Met, Tate, and the Stedelijk Museum, among many others.
