Tomokazu Matsuyama, an artist raised between Japan and the United States, explores national identity and globalization in the Internet age. His work draws upon both Eastern and Western artistic traditions. His canvases reflect his bicultural background, drawing inspiration from sources as diverse as Pop Art and manga, cowboys and samurai, graffiti and the Meiji era, Abstract Expressionism and woodblock printing.
Matsuyama employs a vibrant color palette, and his compositions blur the boundaries between domestic interiors and the natural world.
