Biography

Isabelle Krieg was born in 1971 in the Swiss city of Fribourg. She lives and works in the canton of Thurgau, on the shores of Lake Constance.
At a very young age, Krieg worked as a shepherd in the Swiss Alps and toured with the Pipistrello Circus. These experiences have left a lasting mark on her artistic trajectory. She studied at the Dimitri School in Verscio and at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, deepening her engagement with fields such as theatre, performance, fine arts, and applied arts. She later moved to Berlin and held residencies at the Nairs Foundation in Scuol, the Swiss Institute in Rome, and the BINZ39 Foundation in Zurich.


Krieg draws inspiration from nature and outer space as well as from politics and her own lived experiences. She works across media including sculpture, installation, object art, photography, performance, and architecture.

 

She has participated in group exhibitions at venues such as Café Moskau in Berlin, the Kunstmuseum Bern, the Contemporary Art Centre in Vilnius, OK Linz, and Villa Renata in Basel. Her solo exhibitions have been held at the Museum of Art and History in Fribourg, BINZ39 in Zurich, Kulturpalast Wedding International in Berlin, the Luciano Fasciati Gallery in Chur, Aux Losanges in Tschiertschen, and the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. Her work is held in public and private collections including the Kunstmuseum Thurgau, the Zurich Cantonal Bank, the Natural History Museum of Neuchâtel, the Christoph Hürlimann Collection, Helvetia in Basel, and FRAC Lorraine in Metz.
