Apóstolos Georgiou Greece, b. 1952
Apostolos Georgiou was born in Thessaloniki in 1952. He lives and works in Athens.
He studied Architecture in Vienna and Painting in Florence.
In Georgiou’s large-scale paintings, human figures remain almost inert, suspended in a state of anticipation while performing subtle or unconventional movements and actions. His scenes of everyday life are timeless and infused with an eccentric sense of humor. The artist constructs images of the absurd through a controlled burst of skillful marks and broad brushstrokes.
Georgiou has held solo exhibitions at Rodeo Gallery, London; Rebecca Camhi Gallery, Athens; Zina Athanassiadou Gallery, Thessaloniki; and the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, Thessaloniki, among others.
His most recent group exhibitions include those at the Benaki Museum and Gagosian Gallery, both in Athens.
His paintings have also been presented at major international art fairs such as Documenta in Kassel and Art Basel Hong Kong.
