Jenni Hiltunen Finland, b. 1981
Jenni Hiltunen was born in Hollola, Finland, in 1981. She lives and works in Helsinki.
She studied art at the Academy of Art of the University of Turku and later earned a Master of Arts degree from the Academy of Fine Arts of Finland.
Her work—primarily painterly and focused on portraiture, though she has also experimented with video—reflects on contemporary cultural representation, in which social media and the internet play a dominant role. Hiltunen’s paintings are inspired by situations and moods reflected in blogs and online fashion advertisements. Her brushstrokes are bold, and her colors contrasting and vibrant.
The artist has held several solo exhibitions, including those at Galerie Forsblom, Helsinki and Stockholm; Mimmo Scognamiglio Artecontemporanea, Milan; and Växjö Konsthall, Växjö, among others. She has also actively participated in numerous group exhibitions, notably at Kiasma, Helsinki; Nordic Contemporary, Paris; Rox Gallery, New York; Space Station Sixty‑Five, London; Newbridge Project Space, Newcastle; and the Espoo Museum of Modern Art, Espoo.
