Esther Pearl Frankfurt, Germany, b. 1973
Born in Frankfurt in 1973, she lives and works in Los Angeles.
She studied Fine Arts at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, where she currently teaches. She later earned a Master in Fine Arts degree from the California Institute of the Arts.
She grew up in a series of small towns on the outskirts of Dallas, Texas. Her father and her childhood inspire her work, which is characterized by scenes of everyday life illuminated by flying objects and set in locations such as farmlands, highways, pawn shops, playgrounds, and parking lots. These scenes are complemented by a brief, diary-like description inscribed in the corner of each painting.
She has presented solo exhibitions at galleries such as Webb (Texas), Galleberg (Barkåker, Norway), Gregorio Escalante (Los Angeles), and Maureen Paley (London), as well as at institutions including the University of Wisconsin and the Amon Carter Museum
