A sketch of a woman, rendered in a few strokes in the manner of Cocteau. Her mouth is open—perhaps she is singing, letting out a cry, or expressing astonishment. The immediacy of the gesture harmonizes with the simplicity of the materials and the swiftness of the line.
Hume is associated with the Young British Artists, a group known for a simplified, reductionist aesthetic that straddles the line between abstraction and representation. His work reflects an interest in Pop Art while simultaneously displaying a stylistic restraint and a use of color not typically associated with that movement.
