La obra de Frida Kahlo retrata su propio rostro dentro de un corazón, debajo de él se percibe un texto que narra "apuntes y recuerdos", la obra está realizada sobre una carátula de un libro. A pesar de haber sido catalogada como una surrealista por los mismos padres del movimiento, Frida Kahlo definía sus obras no como un producto de sus sueños, sino como el resultado de su vida misma, haciendo de sus pinturas un encuentro entre la fantasía y el realismo, un diario visual en donde la artista contaba las historias que marcaron su vida: su familia, sus amores, las dolencias y sus orígenes.
