A full-length portrait of a man seated on a sofa. He poses in a relaxed manner, while the perspective of the furniture suggests a certain instability.
Henry Taylor’s enigmatic works include portraits of psychiatric patients, historical figures, and friends, as well as references to pop culture. The artist himself stated that he painted everyone—or at least attempted to. His colorful, expressive paintings are characterized by emotional intimacy and a loose, gestural style, following in the tradition of American artists such as Alice Neel and Jacob Lawrence.
