A man sits in a chair, posed for the viewer. Judging by the position of his hands, he appears comfortable. What stands out are the vibrant colors, both of the geometric background and of some of the man's clothing, such as his socks and glasses. But perhaps the most striking detail is that he has placed his right foot on a book, which immediately makes us wonder about the meaning of the stack of other books behind him.
Tega's paintings are inspired by his fellow Zimbabwean expatriates and his own experience as an immigrant, and convey his admiration for the men and women who grapple with conflicting emotions, hope, and longing. He demands attention and evokes empathy through his profusion of color and theatrical poses.
