Irregular lines and rectangles formed by pure strokes underpin a composition that also draws on the vibrant juxtaposition of vivid colors.
Whitney’s work explores the formal possibilities of color, drawing on principles close to the Color Field movement while being influenced by other artistic expressions such as jazz music. His system of combining shapes and colors, despite its deceptive simplicity, allows them to reveal their meaning in unexpected ways.
