A landscape painting composed of stripes in vibrant colors. The geometry appears as a playful arrangement, thanks to the vividness and variety of the colors—applied unevenly—and to the freedom with which the polygons are treated.
Whitney’s work explores the formal possibilities of color, drawing on principles close to the Color Field movement while being influenced by other artistic expressions such as jazz music. His system of combining shapes and colors, in its deceptive simplicity, allows them to reveal their meaning in unexpected ways. -
