As if viewed through frosted glass, a human figure is discernible against a black background. Although stylized to the very limit of recognizability, the posture is unmistakably human.
In his painting, Van Ofen simplifies and crops images to the point of abstraction, playing with making them unrecognizable at first glance while simultaneously retaining the essential features that a more attentive gaze eventually links to the original subject.
