    En su trabajo, Van Lieshout aborda temáticas sociopolíticas contemporáneas como el multiculturalismo, la posición de las minorías y los migrantes, así como la sociedad de consumo moderna. El artista analiza estos temas desde un punto de vista personal, situándose en el entorno de la problemática, se convierte en un actor activo que provoca situaciones humorísticas, pero también provoca reacciones incomodas en los demás.
