A child and an adult woman are resting, each in a bed. The artwork, composed of various scraps of brightly colored fabric, appears unfinished or torn.
Billie Zangewa explores the experience of the contemporary African woman. Her work encompasses domesticity, femininity, love, and motherhood, invoking self-love as a form of resistance. She often works with large-scale pieces—tapestries with raw, irregular edges—applying cutouts that interrupt the scene being depicted.
