A reinterpretation of the waitress from Édouard Manet’s famous oil painting of the Folies-Bergère bar, over which phrases of romantic exaltation are superimposed, as if through a transparency.
Thurnauer works with various media and transcends the traditional division between abstraction and figuration. She often uses words (messages taken from the media) and images to highlight the plasticity of text and the textuality of painting, as a way of exploring the possibilities of politics and art history.
