An open cardboard box casts its shadow against the cyclorama backdrop. Behind the box, the body of a man appears as he strains to move it. He is a small-scale figure—or perhaps the box is simply enormous. In any case, it is heavier than expected, and he is exerting considerable effort.
Lugo works across various media, including painting, drawing, photography, and installation. Her work reflects on the concept of the represented subject and on the nature of representation itself. Her figures are typically small people confronting everyday objects that have been altered in scale.
