Lubaina Himid: Make Do and Mend (2024): The Contemporary Austin

Overview
March 1 to July 21, 2024.

The Contemporary Austin presented a solo exhibition by Lubaina Himid, a London-based artist originally from Zanzibar. The work Bitter Battles (2023), from the Amparo and Manuel Foundation Collection, was featured in the exhibition.

The show marks the culmination of the 2024 Suzanne Deal Booth / FLAG Art Foundation Prize, awarded to the artist; consequently, the exhibition will also travel to the FLAG Art Foundation in New York.
Himid describes herself as a painter, cultural activist, witness, storyteller, and historian; she has been an influential figure in the British Black and African-diaspora arts movement of the 1980s and an advocate for women artists through her roles as a professor, curator, and artist.
