Lubaina Himid: Make Do and Mend (2024)

The FLAG Art Foundation presented a solo exhibition by Lubaina Himid, an artist originally from Zanzibar and based in London. The work Bitter Battles (2023), from the AMMA Foundation Collection, was included in the exhibition.

The FLAG Art Foundation is a nonprofit exhibition space with no permanent collection, dedicated to organizing solo and group exhibitions focused on emerging and established artists from around the world.

Organized by a diverse community of curators and thinkers both within and outside the art world, FLAG opened its doors to the public in 2008 and has held more than 100 exhibitions celebrating the work of nearly 1,000 artists. Committed to providing education and resources for its surrounding community and throughout New York City, all exhibitions and programs—including artist talks, artist-led workshops, and guided tours for school and museum groups—are free and open to the public.

FLAG offers various projects, awards, and initiatives that provide dynamic support to contemporary artists. Its Spotlight series presents a new or previously unexhibited artwork, accompanied by a commissioned text, fostering focused and reflective dialogues between visual artists and critics, scholars, poets, and others.

Over the years, FLAG has partnered with local, national, and international organizations, including Art & Newport in Newport, RI; The Harlem Children's Zone in New York, NY; The Lab and Museum School in New York, NY; New Curators in London, United Kingdom; and New York Road Runners in New York, NY, to reach audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

The FLAG Art Foundation was founded by Glenn Fuhrman, an art patron and philanthropist. Together with his wife Amanda, he co-founded The Fuhrman Family Foundation. Fuhrman serves as a trustee of New York-Presbyterian Hospital, New York, NY; the Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; and the Tate Americas Foundation, New York, NY. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia, PA; the 92nd Street Y, New York, NY; and the Central Park Conservancy, New York, NY.
