A large-scale diptych—a rarity in Bradford’s body of work. On the left side, a group of about ten children is seated at a table; on the right, three adults are interacting. The scene is rendered in an almost Spartan manner—evident in the schematic depiction of the figures, the composition, and the flat application of color—to the point where the joy inherent in a gathering of children seems to have been replaced by an uncanny sense of suspense.
Bradford is known for her color-saturated, semi-abstract paintings, which feature discernible narratives involving figures and settings illuminated with theatrical intent. The way she balances color, iconography, and narrative allows the viewer to explore multiple formal and metaphorical possibilities within her work.
