Overview
Akos Ezer: Törött pohár. El vaso está roto, lo sigo llenando (2025), Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, San Luis Potosí -...

May 8–November 3, 2025

The first solo exhibition in Mexico to present the work of Akos Ezer (Hungary, 1989), an artist whose practice is rooted in the contemporary European context. Conceived around the concept of the expanded artist’s studio, the exhibition proposed rethinking the studio not as a delimited physical space, but as a practice in transit, open, spilling beyond the original space of creation—not merely a fixed point of origin, but an open path in which the pictorial work continues to mutate as it inhabits another space.

The figures inhabiting his canvases—clumsy, elongated, unbalanced—seem to extend beyond the painting’s margins. They seek not stability, but movement. As if the gesture never quite settles, these become the X-rays of the painting, the skeleton that keeps the creative practice alive—fleeting sketches that drift into dynamic, contradictory, and humorous compositions. In this continuous flow, other media such as sculpture and digital work intertwine, amplifying the pictorial space and straining the limits of the body and the image.

Törött pohár, “the glass is broken” in Hungarian, evokes a persistent fragility. “I keep filling it” suggests a will to continue, even when the container no longer holds everything. This metaphor runs through their work: the insistence on creating within an unstable world, amidst noise, the domestic, and transit. For Ezer, the studio is that cracked glass: a place that no longer contains, but overflows into every new space. Here, the exhibition does not represent a conclusion, but a new form of the studio: an open territory where the work comes alive through its interaction with the viewer.

Akos Ezer: Törött pohár. The glass is broken; I keep filling it.
