Amparo and Manuel Foundation presented the exhibition “Nacimiento, Miradas en el tiempo” for the second time at an international venue and for the first time in Latin America. The exhibition was hosted by the Museum of Pre-Columbian and Indigenous Art (MAPI) in Montevideo, Uruguay, showcasing its new curatorial vision and graphic identity.

The more than 1,100 clay pieces that make up this collection are not merely Christmas ornaments; rather, they constitute an educational and symbolic composition that conveys values and beliefs while also bearing witness to the social changes and processes of secularization in Mexico that began in the mid-19th century, offering a tangible record of daily life in Mexican homes.

This Nativity scene invites us to reflect on the value of folk art and its capacity to serve as a guardian of memory and a portrait of the identity and daily life of a country in constant change. Thus, this work speaks to its dialogue with the tradition of devotional miniatures—a form of folk art that operates outside the major art academies—and with domestic practices associated with women, such as embroidery and miniature theaters, which are now being reevaluated as cultural expressions of great sensitivity and creativity.
