Grayson Perry and the Art of Being Respectable (2026): Traveling exhibition. Mexico 2026-2027

Amparo and Manuel Foundation, in collaboration with the British Council, presents Grayson Perry and the Art of Being Respectable, the first solo exhibition in Mexico by the acclaimed British artist Grayson Perry, curated by Beth Hughes (London, United Kingdom).

The series of six tapestries that make up this exhibition tells the story of social mobility and the influence that social class exerts on our aesthetic taste. Inspired by William Hogarth’s The Rake’s Progress, these tapestries depict the “class journey” undertaken by the young Tim Rakewell and include many of the characters, incidents, and objects that Grayson Perry encountered during his travels and experiences in Sunderland, Tunbridge Wells, and the Cotswolds for the television series All in the Best Possible Taste with Grayson Perry, which premiered on Channel 4 in June 2012.

In the series, Perry embarks on “a safari among the tribes of taste in Great Britain” to draw inspiration for his artwork, literally weaving the characters he meets into a narrative with a keen eye for the details of contemporary taste.
