Before her father’s death, Dr. Amparo Espinosa Rugarcía had founded Documentación de Estudios de Mujeres (DEMAC) in 1989, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the holistic development of women. DEMAC encourages Mexican women from all walks of life to write about their lives, circumstances, and experiences.
Through workshops, contests, and publications, it promotes the expression of women across the country and, since 1989, has been building a unique archive. It holds an annual contest for women’s testimonies that culminates in a publication essential to understanding the power and voice of Mexican women.
