Old and New TestamentsThe Bible is one of humanity's oldest books. Thousands of years elapse between the stories recorded within it. It is a collection of narratives that, viewed through both religious and historical lenses, recounts the creation of the universe and humanity (Genesis) and describes what might be the end of the world (Revelation). In Christianity, the Old and New Testaments constitute the Bible's two major sections; the former covers the period prior to the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem, while the latter chronicles the events and life of the Son of God on Earth. Establishing an exact chronology for biblical passages is complex. While the year zero is often considered to coincide with the birth of Jesus, some studies suggest this theory is uncertain. The exhibition Nativity: Glimpses Through Time centers on the Nativity scene, viewed as a watershed moment between the Old and New Testaments—with the latter beginning at the point in the lives of Mary and Joseph when the coming of Jesus is foretold.

The Glimpses
These images feature characters from the Amparo Espinosa Rugarcía Nativity scene. Viewed from various perspectives, the figures reveal expressions rendered with meticulous attention to gesture and detail.One’s perception shifts when observing them in isolation—removed from the surrounding landscape and the company of other figures. Viewing only these fragments of the body mirrors how we perceive events: as merely one version of the whole.The close-up eliminates distance, bringing us into intimate proximity with the characters' features and revealing expressions that lay bare their emotions. Polychrome profiles and faces highlight gestures conveying sadness, worry, awe, anguish, and joy—feelings experienced while witnessing the events of the story.How many events have these characters witnessed? What stories might they tell us? What has their gaze held across the passage of time? -
