Dale Lewis Essex, United Kingdom, b. 1980

Biography

Dale Lewis was born in Essex in 1980. He lives and works in London.

He earned a Master in Fine Arts from the University of Brighton, a Bachelor in Fine Arts from London Guildhall University, and another bachelor’s degree in Fashion and Textiles from Liverpool John Moores University. He participated in the Turps Banana Painting Programme and has been awarded the Jerwood Painting Fellowship.

Lewis paints from observation, drawing on situations he has witnessed, imagined, or been directly involved in. His large-scale works offer a commentary on society. Ambivalence permeates his practice, and his scenes oscillate between the humorous and the unsettling.

His solo and group exhibitions have included Lager Gallery, Seoul; Anna Zorina, New York; Christian Larsen, Stockholm; Art Space, Chicago; and NADA, New York, as well as various galleries and projects in London such as Edel Assanti Gallery, Turps Gallery, The Invisible Line Gallery, The Rag Factory, and the Lomography Gallery, among others.

His work is held in various public and private collections, including Saatchi and the David Roberts Art Foundation (DRAF).
