Painted on disassembled Veuve Clicquot champagne boxes—whose orange hue lends a warm tone to the scene—a woman prepares to eat. The logos on the boxes are used to represent tableware. The woman is adorned with leaves, and her solemn pose evokes icon art, which adds to a certain overall constructivist feel.
Although he also works in sculpture and video art, Alexander Kaletski is best known for his use of cardboard boxes, which he paints and assembles into collages. Finding discarded boxes is part of the artist’s creative process, thereby introducing the ready-made into a body of work that naturally incorporates traces of other historical movements.
