Rose Wylie United Kingdom, b. 1934

Biography

Born in 1934, Rose Wylie lives and works in Kent, England.
She studied at the Folkestone School of Art in Kent during the 1950s and earned a master’s degree from the Royal College of Art in 1981.

For her large-scale canvases and drawings, Wylie draws on a wide range of visual sources, from art history and cinema to cartoons and celebrity culture. A strong advocate of spontaneity in the creative process, she often paints or collages over completed sections of her canvases, a technique that produces dynamic shifts in scale and alterations in texture.

Since 2010, her work has been exhibited internationally in galleries in New York, Berlin, Seoul, and Milan. Wylie’s work is now held in collections including Tate Britain in London, the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C., and the Royal College of Art in London, among others.
