Many of the architectural elements and clothing are made from plastics and wrappers: the variety of textures is one of the most striking characteristics of the work. Another is its large size.
Zakari's works are a call to reflection and action regarding the environment and the impact of industrialization on the world. The artist collects food wrappers and single-use plastics from the trash, and with his team, cleans and transforms them into raw materials for his pieces. His work also champions the role of his community and underscores the presence of stoicism, joy, and resilience in his subjects as a way of confronting the social problems facing Ghana, his country.
