Sarah Lucas Londres, Reino Unido, b. 1962

Biography

Sarah Lucas lives and works in London, where she was born in 1962.
She is one of the most important figures of the YBAs (Young British Artists), the generation of British artists that emerged in the 1990s. She studied in London at Working Men’s College (1982–83), the London College of Printing (1983–84), and Goldsmiths’ College (1984–87).

Her work is characterized by irreverent humor and encompasses a variety of media, including sculpture, photography, and installation. She employs ordinary objects in unexpected ways as substitutes for the human body, with the aim of constantly challenging conventional understandings of sex, class, and gender.
