Genieve Figgis Dublín, Irlanda, b. 1972
Born in 1972, Genieve Figgis lives and works in Wicklow, Ireland.
She graduated in Fine Art from the Gorey School of Art in Wexford in 2006. In 2007, she completed her bachelor’s degree with honors at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, where she earned a Master of Fine Arts in 2012.
The artist paints scenes rich in color, texture, and humor. Through her work, she explores and satirizes the idealization of luxury and leisure throughout the history of art. Her works depict sumptuous domestic interiors and grand country houses, idyllic natural settings, and elegantly dressed protagonists engaged in activities such as banquets and celebrations. In her compositions, however, the figures often appear faceless or as eerie creatures merged with their lush, semi-abstract surroundings.
Her works have been exhibited in several solo and group exhibitions in Ireland, Great Britain, Europe, Canada, the United States, and Asia. Her work has also been shown at international art fairs in Europe and the United States, including Art Brussels in 2017.
