Ania Hobson Kidderminster, United Kingdom, b. 1990
Born in Kidderminster in 1990, Ania Hobson lives and works in Saxmundham, England.
She holds a Bachelor in Fine Arts from the University of Suffolk. She also studied at the Royal Drawing School in London and specialized in Portrait Art at the Florence Academy of Art.
Hobson works primarily in oil and specializes in portraiture. Whether working from live sitters or from photographs, she sketches directly onto the canvas in an attempt to capture the movement and personality of her subjects, most of whom are relatives and friends. Her brushwork is natural and fluid; her work is at once classical and contemporary.
She has presented her work extensively in both group and solo exhibitions. Notable shows include the European Cultural Centre, Venice; the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh; the National Portrait Gallery, London; the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, London; and Mall Galleries, London. Her portraits are permanently displayed at the Malting Gallery, Suffolk, and Thompson’s Gallery, Aldeburgh. Hobson also participated in the 2019 Venice Biennale.
