Two women pose next to an orange cat. Their clothing and posture suggest an intimate setting, which contrasts sharply with the ceremonious and ecstatic expression conveyed by their wide-open eyes. The colors are applied in broad, flat planes.
Rebecca Brodskis' work lies at the crossroads of reality and imagination, order and disorder, materialism and spirituality, determinism and freedom. The artist filters her subjects through the lens of imagination, revealing how our behavior conforms to social expectations, with the consequent repression of certain aspects of ourselves.
