Three figures with a forlorn air, standing on simple pedestals. Both the one wrapped in an orange cloak and a dark hood and the two who are naked and sheltering in each other’s embrace appear to be frozen with cold. Their gazes convey a sense of bewilderment.
Scheib is known for his wood and bronze sculptures, which range in style from expressionist to medieval, though he has also produced notable drawings, woodcuts, and lithographs, as well as series of paper cutouts. His wood sculptures and silkscreen prints draw from the world of puppetry—from which they borrow the suspended quality of the moment—and evoke a contemplative, exposed sensibility.
